
Who are the GuriNgai People?
We, are the GuriNgai People, the First Nations Traditional Custodians of the Central Coast and Northern Sydney regions of NSW.
We are also known as Garigal, Walkaloa, Wannangine,
Cammeraigal, Kuring-gai and The Broken Bay Tribe.
Our GuriNgai totem is the Darinyung (stingray).
The traditional language of the GuriNgai People is ‘Karee’.
The word ‘Karee’ means ‘Saltwater’.

Bordering the Lands of the
GuriNgai are the
Awabakal to the North,
Darkinoong to the West and
Dharug to the South West.
Prominent GuriNgai peoples at the time of Invasion include:
Bungaree,
Matora,
Cora Gooseberry and
Musquito.
